The only thing I can tell you is to stick with lighter gauge strings. The SR necks are very thin and pliable, and they are adjusted for .045 to .095 (on old basses) or .105 (on new basses) roundwounds. Also, the nut is cut for those.

If you stray very far from that, it may require a trip to the shop to redo the setup (relief, action, intonation, maybe even nut).

Not true.

They aren't thin to the point where they can't take a heavy guage. I've used a .125 B string on my GSR 190 and had to do nothing to it, and mine is older from 2002 or so.

I'm not arguing, 'cause I'm no expert. I just have a question - can you tune those strings E-A-D-G without affecting the relief?

(BTW - I wasn't slamming Ibanez - I have a Soundgear, and I wouldn't part with it.)

WHen I got my Ibanez(GSR100z) I hooked it up with EB Super slinkies. Kept them on for a year, and nothing happened except they got real dirty. Good strings overall though.

I've only ever changed my strings once on my Ibby (She needs a new set, the ones on at the moment are 6 months old, the others were over a year and a half O_O)

I just put Ernie Ball's on it. The ones in the pink pack.

What are the strings that come with Ibby's to start with? All I know is that they have red cotton on the ends.
