New Strings for my 55-01???

Sign in to disble this ad
I am about to order some DR's(?) for my Lakland Skyline 55-01replacing the original strings for the first time, online tonite if I can get a quick reply. Which Dr's would best replace, feelwise, tonewise the factory strings for this bass. I will start using this bass soon in a group that plays 70's-80's funk cover tunes, like Cameo, Kool & the gang, that kinda stuff, slapping, popping style. Will some Dr's be the way to go or can y'all recommend other strings better suited for this, also should they be long or extra long scale for my 35" scale on this bass? Can I go nickles or steels? Dont want a harsh feeling roundwound if I can avoid it. Thanks for any advice.

I've got the same bass and hve played the same kind of music and I love the DR Fat Beams! Not too rough and they have that good thump and snap sound. I can see why Marcus Miller uses them.

Hey thanks for that...

I did a search last nite and saw alot of info for strings for 55-01's and DR strings in general but I was trying to narrow it down to what I needed strings for, so thanks again. Just from reading here I was leaning to the Sunbeams for my style of playing. I may just have to breakdown ($$) and buy both the fats and sunbeams to trully find out which ones fit best, but if you play the same styles and the fats work for you, may just go that way since I have to buy strings for my Cirrus 6 soon as well. This ($$) is why I only change my strings like once a year, but now in 2 new bands so I see more string changes in my future, at least for a good reason. Peace.

If you liked the stock strings, that's what I'd buy. You can get them direct from Lakland.com Those are the ones that I like with my 55-01 and my JO5. I do prefer nickles though.
