Exclamation New strings for my ibanez.... (please help)

Sign in to disble this ad
So I've been playing bass for a little over two years, i was never very serious but now that i have a lot more time i've been getting more seious into it. I got an Ibanez srx400 for my birthday and for the last two years my older brother has been buying all of my stuff (one of his friends is wayyy into this stuff). Now that hes gone i need help and he won't help :/

I last put on i think some prosteels but this outta nowwhere gave a lot of buzz off of the frets. i typically play in standard tuning or drop D. Does anybody have any suggestions on strings that won't give as much buzz? (i realize that it may not entirly be the strings but ive seen a difference with different strings), AND does anyone know, except for fixing my truss rod which i've done how else to get rid of the buzz. I've been thinking of getting a nut custom carved because i would be great just have that like 2mm higher so i could raise the bridge and have the string actually like straight instead of having them low to high.

I'm new here and from what i've seen you all are a nice set of guys.
Any help is appreciated thanks guys!

You're probaly using meidum gauge (typicaly .45-.105), I play GHS bass boomers heavy gauge .115-.50, and I tune as low as two whole steps down with minimal problems. Try heaver strings, as well as bringing the bridge height up.

The new set you put on is probably lower tension, but that shouldn't always be a bad thing. I'm assuming you don't have the packaging anymore, or else you could tell us what gauge they are.

You shouldn't have to go with a different string to get rid of the buzz, and you shouldn't need a new nut, either. Find yourself a good, knowledgeable guitar/bass tech and have your bass setup properly; it will make a world of difference. Even better, find someone good who can show YOU how to do it. There's several good tutorials on the internet of how to do this, some are posted in the stickies I believe.
