Try the stainless steel DR's. The LoRisers and HiBeams are well liked by many bassists everywhere.

I would suggest going with DR Black Beauties if you can. I have them strung on my Warwick and I love the way they sound playing thrash metal and punk.

For thrash? Blue Steels or LoRiders. LaBella HRS M70 set if you tune down to D.

What sound change are you wanting from the Ernie Balls? If none theres absolutely no reason to change strings. If you want a little more kick and low end to your sound. Without loseing any crunch factor, Id say Rotosound Swing 66 or the new DR Neon strings. GHS would be worth a try if your wanting bassically same sound char as the Ernie Balls but with little more string life. Daddario only if you want smoother sound then your getting with the Ernie Balls.

Whatever brand you choose, just make sure they are stainless steel.

I don't have much experience with DRs, but from what I have tried, they seem pretty good.
