newbie needing string help

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone this is my first post. I started playing 5 months ago and i,m loving it. But here's my question I'm playing a squires mb 4 i like playing songs from linkin park, three days grace and others like that. But a lot of these bands play in drop tuning. When i detune down to a drop c on my e string it becomes so loose that it sounds like crap. So i did some research on this site and went to my local music store. They suggested to use Ernie ball power slinky hybrid set .45 .65 .85 .105 and buy a .110 separate to get down to a drop c. Does this sound logical. I just don't have the money to waste if this set up is not going to work. I would still like to go back to regular tuning with this set up without having to change out strings each time. Also will i have to make a lot of adjustments to the bass for this kind of set up. Thanks in advance

I'd say go to the string manufacturers websites and look and string tensions. Or save up for a five string

My 4 bangers are tuned C G C F using .045 / .065 / .085 / .105, and the E string is a bit floppy, but it also sounds more focused, and I have my action set higher. Going to a .110 or .115 will help increase tension if you can afford the extra cost. DR makes a Hi-Beam set .050 / .070 / .090 / .110, and GHS makes a heavy set .050 / .070 / .095 / .115. Other manufactures make heavies too, but you might not like your A thru G larger.
