Newbie Question- Which strings for my P-bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
recently bought a used '83 MIJ 61 RI P-bass and I need to put new strings on her. I mostly play Blues, Classic Rock, Southern Rock and Hard Rock.

I know nothing about bass strings. Whats the difference between flatwound and roundwound and what gauges would best fit for the styles I mentioned above?

Anything else I need to know as far as strings are concerned? Thanks in advance!

Hey, good old roundwound D'Adarrio strings have served me well for many years. 45-105 medium light gauge if memory serves me. They are not expensive either. I'd start with these and try flats later.

For flats LaBella 760FL are good or for rounds DR Sunbeams. Either should work into what you want to do musically, just depends on whether you like rounds or flats.
