Newbie String Gauge Question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi... I have two 5 string basses... a BTB405QM and an SR305. I'd like to put the SR305 in tenor tuning (EADGC) and leave the BTB in standard B (BEADG). I just got the BTB and the strings are in pretty bad shape. I haven't changed the strings on the SR in almost a year. What string gauges do you suggest for each of the two? I am not familiar with the standard string gauges for basses.

Thanks

KJ

I dig 45's for funk, 50's+ for jazz. Ernie Balls for rounds, D'Addarios for flats.

is that for standard tuning on a 5? also, could I just buy a 6 string set and tuck away a spare low B for later if i wanted to do the tenor tuning on my SR305?
