I generally like nice zingy rounds (Rotosounds) on my Jazz basses, but this slightly warmer, woodier tone sounds good to me. So, what strings immediately spring to mind when you hear this (rather heavily compressed, or at least it sounds that way on my laptop speakers) tone?

Would love to know what strings he's using as well!

They're nice strings, zingy bright but with plenty of grunt in the mids and nice definition in the lows. I'm unsure yet whether I prefer them to my usual Rotosound Swing Bass rounds or not. I certainly don't prefer the price - £29 a set over here, about twice what I pay for Rotosounds (understandably, I suppose).
I've got a gig tonight and I'll get a more accurate impression of them then, but if I like them enough then I could pick up a few sets while I'm in NY next month, the price would be a lot more reasonable there.
