Nickel 6 String Sets???

hey all,

seems like nickel versions of 6 string sets are pretty rare.

also, i heard most sets are simply tacked on high C's, that arent quite up to par in volume or tone to the rest of the strings.

recommend at any sets i should check out? currently using the MTD brand that's on my MTD.

I'm using Ken Smith Taper Core Light Gauge Burners on my 6 and am very happy with the balance all the way across. The C string is excellent. They sound warm on the bottom and there is plenty of shimmer up top for chords and slap and jazz guitar like fingerstyle lines.

Having said that, I have previously had excellent results with Diaddario XL6's as well.

No balance issues in either case.

Of all the strings I've tried on my Cirrus the ones I like the most are the Cirrus brand strings. Go figure Musicians Friend has them for a good price but list's them as stainless steel which they are not. If you click on the picture you'll see on the package they are nickle wound. besides them i only tried labella slappers and ken smith burners on a 6 string basses and i enjoyed the the ken smith.

If you're just looking for a string thats warmer and smoother than the MTDs, you could check out labella, pedulla, or smith stainless rounds ... you don't have to neccesarily go nickel. When I had a 6er I always used the Pedulla set and loved them.

FYI, i luuuuuuuuv the feel of a smoother than silk nickel string. i liked the labella's, but found them a tad inconsistent.

My favorite nickels are slinkys, they do make a 32-45-65-80-100-130 6 string set. Have you tried D'adarrio XLs? Pretty reliable choice.

If I were going to go nickel again I'd probably try DR sunbeams, since I love that round core feel.

Jae, I just put Fodera Nickels on my Roscoe. They are No.28125. I LOVE these strings. I used to use them when Fodera was just starting with strings and they were inconsistent at the time. I believe it was also just one person making all of the strings back then. Well, I wasn't happy with the strings I've been using so I figured I'd try the Fodera's again. Man, am I happy I did. If you like a smooth feel and warm sound with just enough zing in the top than these are well worth checking out. I think I've found my favorite string! I think that these would be perfect as a Nickel string on an MTD. Check 'em out.
