Nickel rounds feeling greasy

Sign in to disble this ad
Ive recently changed from flats to nicke rounds on my Jazz bass , for some reason the nickel rounds have a strange almost greasy kind of feel to them this is really off putting and makes it hard to get a good , strong attack , has anyone else noticed this with nickel rounds , i guess this is the smoother feel that people talk about with nickel rounds

I like that feel, personally, but I've been playing nickels forever. It'll just take some time to get used to.

They *do* feel slicker; Stainless used to always feel a bit rough (Think old rotosounds) - I used to really like the rough feel - kindsa kept my fingers in place... but anymore I like the feel of nickle better - better for the stuff I play these days, too (more jazz/funk, less rock)

ok , well looks like im set on stainless steels then (the extra brightness would be welcome as well) , does anyone know of any SS strings that are reasonably smooth (in other words wont eat my frets, my jazz has the narrow vintage style frets)

D'Addario Pro Steels are pretty smooth feeling. They're the only stainless strings this long time nickel user has even come close to liking. I think all stainless strings are hard on frets.
