Nickel Rounds for a Lakland 55-01

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently acquired a Lakland 55-01 that came with steel strings on it. I want to change to my prefered nickel round wounds and understand there are issues with string length on the 35" scale basses - especially when strung through body.
I was hoping my fellow TBers could advise me on any nickel rounds that they know will fit that bass stringing through body.
Thanks in advance for the help!!

You need extra long strings... Many companies make them...

Look for strings that fit a 36" instrument, usually labeled as "Extra Long" or "Super Long" depending on the manufacturer. Generally 38" winding length is what you are looking for...

D'Addario, DR, Ernie Ball, Fodera, GHS, LaBella (But doesnt recommend through body) SIT, Sadowsky (but doesnt recommend through body), Thomastik-Infeld,

and there are probably a few more but thats all I can think of off the top of my head...

Removing Rotosound from the list ( they actually dont have extra long nickels sorry),

Lakland offers a nickel set that is not insanely priced.

If you stick with stringing thru the body only, you're limiting your selection quite a bit. I had an 01 and I only went through the bridge when I strung mine.

Jason has already replied but you can contact him directly. He owns BSO and I buy all of my strings from him. He's very helpful and a friendly dude!

I have Circle K strings on mine. I don't know what they're made of, but I'm a believer.

I play rock and country. They feel great. They sound great. IMO.

Don't take my word for it. Try a set of the balanced strings. I am not associated with the company.

I string through the bridge. I've tried both ways. Can't tell a difference.

Word.

Top load the strings if the bridge offers that ability. Only thing thru body does in my experience is give a slight increase in trension feel. Does not benefit or change the sound so long as its a qaulity high mass bridge to begin with. Dr and rotosund swing66 will fit it fine.
