Nickel Rounds with ROUND core?

Sign in to disble this ad
Looking for a set of nickel rounds with round core (because of increased volume and decreased tension!) and there does not seem to be many.

I've already got DR Sunbeams.

I see Fender makes a set, but I don't like the .110 E, want to stick with .45-.105 or .40-.105.

I'm curious about Dunlop, but I can't get an answer from them as to whether or not they are round core or not.

A coated string would be fine too, I'll give them a try.

TI makes them. Other than being round wound, they are just like the TI jazz flats, round core and lower tension. The windings are a little finer gauge than most. Also, not cheap.

Dejavu.
I spent an hour yesterday and ended up ordering the Sunbeams and Fender 7250's.
I didn't think the .110 E (from the Fender 8250's) was a good thing. Then again, seems like a lot of people like them.

Do you like the Sunbeams and have your tried a pure nickel string on a hex core like the 7150's?

I love the Sunbeams on my Peavey Millennium. What I'm looking for now is a mellower, fatter sounding string for my SX P/J. Sunbeams will be the only string that goes on my Millennium, but they didn't quite do it for me on the P/J. I actually have D'Addario XL's on it now and I like them better for that bass (I know they're hex, but they are lighter gauge and I want to go back up to .45's which is why i want .45's with lower tension.)

I have also tried the DR Black Beauties which are also hex core, but those .45's have great tension. I just hate that the color will come off (I got a used set and they are splotchy. Sound great, look like crap!). SilverStars are always an option too...but for me if I'm paying extra I want the color

I also tried the DR Hellborg pure nickels, but were TOO mellow. I lost that snap that I like. Not sure if Fender pure nickels are equally mellow, it might be worth a shot. But again..in my quirkiness I never gave Fender strings a serious look because they are not made in the USA. I know...neither was my SX bass that the strings will go on....but unlike with strings, I can't get a better made USA bass for the same price.

Dunlop's are hex core. They feel like hex core. You should still try them. They really are nice strings.

I forgot to mention that I do have Dunlops on two of my other basses and they are great strings. I just never knew what core they used. They are lower tension which got me curious as to if they were round core, so it's good to know they're hex. However I think they will be too bright for what I want on my P/J.

Never occured to me that Fender strings were not made in the USA by one of the big US manufacturers for Fender; wonder who makes them?
