I Just got my used 5501 and need new strings. I don't have the money to try a bunch of different sets, so I thought I'd seek some advice.
1-I need some recommendations for NICKEL strings that will fit the 35" scale...easy to find brands that don't require ordering online.
2-Any advantages/disadvantages if I string through the bridge? It seems like there would be more strings readily available this way.
3-I have a new set of long scale GHS Boomers (.045-.130) for my other bass, but I'm unsure if these would be long enough for the Lakland. Anyone know for sure (either through bridge or body)?
Thanks! |

2. It's supposed to provide more fundamental/sustain as opposed to top loading the strings.
3. Not sure on these - hopefully someone else will chime in.
Good luck!

| | | DR Sunbeams were my first thought also, but the stores in my area only carry the SS DR varieties . Between SS Loriders and Hibeams, which would you say would be the closest to the warm and less harsh sound of nickel? |

| | | | ndrifka, have you contacted Lakland for their strings yet. I believe they use a custom set of DR nickels. I have a 4 string so the 5 'er may be different. If you like the strings they came with you can order from them and they are not too expensive. |

I did pick up a pack of nickel Loriders about an hour ago, but I had to make a ton of calls to find some nickel strings from DR sold at my local music stores. Tons of stainless DR's out there though . |

| | | ndrifka, I just looked at the order form that came with mine and they have both nickel and stainless available for the 4 and 5 string in either nickel or stainless.
Last time I ordered I purchased both. I will order only nickel next time! |

That said, I like the Lakland nickel roundwounds but also would love to hear about others that fit, either string-through or not.

| | | | I'm under the impression that DR makes Lakland custom strings. Some folks think it's GHS that makes them for Lakland. Does anyone have the skivvy on this? Thanks! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
