Dunlop Nickel Medium. They sound similar to and feel smoother than Sunbeams.

Rotosound 66LDN's are my favorite.

D'Addario XL Nickel currently.

It all depends on what you like, tone, and tension wise. I have played Dunlop and, DR Sunbeams, and they are both great.
I've been liking these D'Addarios because the tension seems to be a bit tighter than Dunlops, and I want to call them more full sounding?
Out of the box more piano like sounding. It just seems they a bit less scooped than the others. Remember that all of this is subjective......

High tension: DR Lo-Riders
Low Tension: DR Sunbeams or Dunlops
Balanced (and for me, perfect) tension: Circle-K. The only nickels I use.

But everyone is going to vote for their favorite strings. You won't know what works for you until you try a bunch of different ones.

I currently am very happy with D'Addario EXL 230s and Rotosound Rotobass RB50s. Both are a .050-.110 set.

Really...smoother than Sunbeams? Might have to check those out. I always felt Sunbeams were very smooth.

They are not smoother feeling than Sunbeams, and they have a hex core so they feel quite different.

I actually thought the Dunlops were smoother, too. They have an almost liquid feel that's hard to describe. I'd say Dunlops are more akin to Slinkies than Sunbeams.

Its hard to beat Sunbeams for a sweet nickel string that lasts a long time.

Google juststrings.com and check out their site. They carry most brands of (nickel) strings and many of them are rated for tension as well. In the end it's a matter of trial and error.

I prefer bassstringsonline.com here lately, much better prices and Jason is awesome

Plus, you can sort by string type. Here are all his nickel strings:

Another vote for something from DR or GHS and an email to Jason at bassstringsonline.com. Let him know what you're looking for in tone and feel and he'll lay out several good choices for you.

Dunlops are round core, and they are smoother. You can look at them and see it.

This will probably turn into a list of all the nickel strings out there, but I would like to put a vote in for Thomastik Jazz Rounds. They are super supple and lush. They are pretty spendy though.

Dr Neons and rotosound swing 66 nickell would be my top picks. Not a fan of daddario, too smooth sounding, subtracts form pups and basses growl and crunch factor compared to other strings Ive tried. But if smooth is your thing, then would be good for you.
