No Circle K strings can be strung through the body?

Sign in to disble this ad
Does this mean all sets? I wanted to try a .124 .094 .070 .053 .037 .025 6 string set on a ESP bass but it's a through the body setup. I read on the Circle K website you can't use their strings on these types of basses, is that just the thicker strings or all?

Thanks.

The taper on their larger strings is not long enough for string through. The non-tapered strings should go through the body just fine. BTW, you will the strings...

Is there no option for top-loading on that bass? I would have thought a 6 string would have a top-load option. Best contact Circle K via the website.

So I take it that means the thick part of the string will rest on the saddle instead of the tapered part?

The bass is on order and should be here friday, I wanted to order some good strings ahead of time. It does look in the photo like it's strung through the bridge. I read that it was through body. So I guess it gives you both options like a G&L I used to have.

Very rarely do bass strings have to be strung through the body. Many times, it's just an option that is expressly stated for the sake of being a selling point. I'd venture a guess that this bridge has both top and through-body options.

I remember the G&L Tribute had problems with the bridge getting pulled off the body from the tension. I've seen photos of that happening. It didn't have the same anchor screws as the standard made in USA models.

That's mainly becauset the G&L bridge is just held on by two screws, and they didn't anchor far into the body.

That ESP bridge looks to have at least 6 screws, and they are at the base of the bridge so they should anchor pretty good. Not a problem.

And don't forget, you can always replace the bridge it it's through body only. I doubt it is though. I'd have to replace it anyway, as it looks to be one of those old 'zip the string all the way through the little hole' designs. I never understood that design.

Worst case, Carvin is blowing out their old Hipshot 6 string bridges for $30. Well worth it if you ask me, it's a 'quick load' bridge.

The screw holes? Probably not, no matter though. Just drill new ones.

The string through holes? Could be a problem if you plan to string through the body.

I wouldn't worry about it though, just use DR Sunbeams. They can be strung through body or top load and are low tension and compression wound like Circle K's. I had Circle K's on my Spector and went back to Sunbeams mainly because they are about $10 cheaper. They feel and sound very similar to me, both are great strings.

You can get the 6 string set here. You can build your own custom gauge set here as well. Sign up as a TB user for VIP pricing

I'll probably buy one of those bridges just to have on hand, maybe sell it down the road. I have a hipshot tremolo and really like the quality. I'll see how the bridge is when the bass comes in tomorrow and make a decision eventually Thanks for all the info.

It's a top-load with string thru option. Bridge looks fine i doubt you'll need to replace it. Circle Ks will work when top loaded.
