Non-Nickel Strings

Sign in to disble this ad
I have been struggling with eczema on my left hand, and I am starting to think that it might possibly be caused by the nickel round-wound strings that I have been using.
I was hoping that you could enlighten me with what other options I have, and what your favorite non-nickel strings are.

First, what type strings are they, and what do you like about them... , or what are you wanting to change other than the nickel aspect.

For Me,
I really like the DR's. I've got Fatbeams (steel) on one, and Sunbeams on another(nickel) I like the low tension and the resoponse.

Try a set of coated strings yet? Might be something to look into.

You talking about dyshidrotic eczema? Cause I get the same deal and its not the nickel. Although the trigger for yours may be nickel. Mine seems to be more seasonal then anything else. Might try acoustic strings and see what happens?

The only reason why I suspect that it is possibly nickel is because, I went through a phase last year when I was super busy with school and whatnot when I didn't play very much bass and it eventually disappeared, and then when I started playing again heavily it came back. It is just as likely or more that is not the nickel however..
I haven't used coated strings yet because of the price, but that does sound like it may be worth a shot, any suggestions?
I'm pretty sure I have on some ernie ball slinkys right now. Thinking I should maybe switch to steels, but I have no idea what to get, or if they will eat up my hands even more :/

Check the classifieds here, get some steel strings that someone has used/tried and see if that helps, that way you're out much less money to give it a go, and if you find ones you like then you can grab a new set.

Stainless steel, and tapewound strings are options besides the coated ones. If you get a set and try them, and the condition goes away, then you you will know.
