Noob string question

OK mabey I'm too picky but I just put on a new set of Ernie Ball's Hybrids. The A string sounds perfect for my raised high mids/ highs (kings x, tool style) but the E doesn't cut through without the D and G sounding harsh and too high midy. We play mostly in standard and drop D. I have used nothing but DR's for my guitars for years and love them. Are they as good on bass? Any other suggestions? I really appreciate your time.

The hybred set isnt as well balanced as the regular sets imo. I found ernie ball strings a good choice especially if you want to accent crunch for your sound. More useful for basses that are a bit lacking in that. I cant help but wonder if a pup adjustment might help you also. Raising pole peices ussually accents highs and lowering pole peices ussually cuts highs a little. But again I think youd prefer the string to string tone balance on the regular sets moreso then the hybred one.

i usually find myself with this problem when the bass im playing has too bright of tonal wood for the body. solid maple is not my style

Yes, DR bass strings are awesome. Try 'em.

DRs are awesome..But if you want that particular sound I would go with the Power Slinkys instead of the Hybrids..Slightly Heavier but WAY fuller. the low E is Crap Ur Pants deep and with a drop D tuning it holds tone really well

Power Slinky's sound and feel so brutal. When you play them they just feel so powerful (hence the name i suppose)
I play in drop C and the tension is great. The only problem is you have extremely high tension whenever you want to play in standard, and you'll have to change the setup on your bass if you're going to power slinky's. And, if you're unlucky like me, the one of the strings could be too big for the nut, and your nut is made out of metal so there's nothing you can do about it.
