is this normal?

i strung up my g&l sb1 with ernie ball regular slinkies 50 to 105s. i noticed that the e string tapers smaller at the peghead end. i guess it is the outer windings ending? anyway the last one ends on the tuner right where it is leaving the peg and going to the nut. is this normal? do other string sets do this? does it affect anything, like staying in tune? or tone? input would be appreciated. i just started playing bass a couple of months ago, and this is the first time i have ever strung a bass.

It's a tapered string, no worries.

Pretty sure most brands have the E and B strings (if you have a 5er) taper at the nut and sometimes the bridge. Probably depends on gauge also.
