I love the ping and boink of a light guage, but everytime I play in a loud setting, I press down way too hard.

With heavy strings i dont play as hard, but I lose some of that ping and boink. <-- trademarked by the way so if you want to use that, just gimme 10 bucks.

I have a light set of sr2000's and have some blue steels to try again.. been so long since I had blue steels I dont remember if they fit that bill.

Doing a setup overhaul on my main Laky and its time to get stuff right.

I think if you can roll off some of your low end before the signal gets to the amp (and preferably before it goes to any effects as well), it should help. But don't be drastic about it, don't just cut your lows in half; roll off some lows and a little less low-mids until you get that slightly thinner, clearer tone.

Do you mean med gauge with less then average tension? If so, humm, someone should be along shortly to suggest low tension strings.
