Normal wear on nylon tapewound ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys and gals,

First of all, Happy New Year !
Happiness and health to all of you.

Now for the question part,
I bought a set of labella nylon tapewound in october,
and now my D string show signs of wear : the metal under nylon tape shows in a few spot between the 1-2 fret. The worse seems to be right over the 2nd fret. I play about 1-2 hours per day, mostly fingerstyle, slap a bit.

I was wondering if its normal wear or if its simply a defective string. Should I consider buying a single string to replace it ? I found them online.

Thanks for your insight

Here's a couple of pics

If it doesn't bother you, then go ahead and order the replacement and keep playing the original until it unravels. If it is causing a difference in the sound, then go ahead and replace it.
Being a tapewound, then I do not think a replacement will sound much different than the older strings.
