NSD: TI flats, 4th string

Just got my replacement TI flat 4 string for my Tacoma, to replace one that broke when I first strung it up.

Fantastic company, I wrote them to return it a year ago and after a failed attempt to send, I got sidetracked and forgot about it. I wrote them again, sent it back and they express shipped a new string from Austria and thanked me for sending it for them to analyze. They said most players just chuck them so they don't get to look at many.

Probably my fault anyway for over-tightening. I think that is responsible for 90% of string failure.

My dilemma is, should I leave them on a Tacoma acoustic or move them over to an Alembic Essence? Or will it be horrible and should I save my time...?

Hmm.. Can't help you with your dilemma, but I do have a question. How are the TI Jazz Flats on your acoustic? Do you use it plugged in often? I have an Ibanez AEB5E that I'm shopping for strings for. Leaning heavily towards D'Addario Tapewounds, but I have those on my electric 5er and would sort of like to differentiate. Thanks!

Nice to see that TI is so customer service-oriented!

It is a fretless so the flats preserve the fretboard some, but I do like the sound a lot and it surprisingly has plenty of thump and tone. Very upright sounding with walking lines. I get a lot of mwah with these, plugged in or acoustic.

I was worried about their volume because technically they are electric strings and not made for acoustics, but they are more than fine.

Plugged in they just sound as they do acoustically, with more depth and mwah. Almost piano sounding if you play them right.

It's funny that I had to read about these strings online for about a year until I found out that they are actually made in my home town. Can't wait to try them!

I made the switch, putting the TI flats on the Alembic and moving the coated DRs to the Tacoma.

Unreal, I can't believe I waited this long for that string. It is everything I have wanted and have been looking for in tone and it was right under my feet the whole time, I feel like Dorothy. I knew it the first time I plugged it in and hit a note. Not at all like I expected, it has a nice bite and growl that just sounds warm and right.

Perfect tension too, the DRs were a little floppy by comparison and these have a more precise feel.

On the Tacoma I lost some tone for sure but the DRs are a bit louder and have a nice tone of their own, you just can't do as much with it. More noise too.

I see why there are so many believers.
