Nylon Tape Wound

I have been using Fender 9120s on my four string but they do not make them for five string bass. Any one got any thoughts on a Nylon or nylon tape wound string for a 35 inch scale five string bass ?

Labella's 5 string nylon tapewound set will fit a 35" scale bass.

Hello Tim

I got the La Bella`s today and did a gig to night.
Man they rock. I am hooked even at the price. But not that bad from Carven. If you order two sets about $29.50 each.
shipping is 8.95 for how ever many sets you buy.

How do they last? Not just my opinion on sound. Every one notice the difference. I played the same place a week ago with the same bass set up except for the strings.

Great Wink! They really are nice strings! I've got them on 2 basses currently:

A Lightwave Fretless 5, they sound very full and balanced on it, much better than numerous rounds and flats I tried.

The real surprise for me was when I installed them on my Kydd Carry-On EUB (30" scale) after also trying about 1/2 dozen flats. With a custom foam mute installed at the bridge they sound very much like an upright. Without the mute they cry very nicely - a very warm yet still bright tone. I absolutely love 'em on this bass!!

And yeah, they'll last!

I've also had the same set for about 3 years. Tapewounds are all I use anymore. I did roundwounds for about a year, then went on to flatwounds, but I still didn't have that smooth, mellow tone I wanted, so I got a set of tapewounds and have never looked back.

I've had one set for 2 years...sound new...another set for about 7 years, sound great, just a tad more mellow...which suits the bass that they're on...

Yeah, they're right in between flats and rounds. They are actually roundwound strings w/flat nylon tape coating. That's what gives them their best of both worlds tone!

Like I sead they have my vote. I could not beleave how many people sead something about the sound. And I don`t mean the band. The ones that are more in to drinking and dancing if you know what I mean. But that is what count`s as they are the ones that bring in the money. I guess I am set for a while if they last like that I got two sets. I play at least three nights a week so if they last a fue months I would be happy.

The La Bellas should last you a long while. I've had the same set on my Reverend Brad Houser for a couple of years and they're still great. I also used them when we recorded our album.

I've been wanting to try something that has a more "fundimental" tone to it and have considered using the nylon wounds but wasn't sure if the one's that Carvin markets for the acoustic/electric bass would work on the typical bass (I assumed they were non-metallic). Do they work? Anyone have sound clips of how they sound?

I just received a set of LA Bella´s to put on my Acoustic...
They are the perfect strings for this kind of bass... goodbye fretnoise and clacky sounds.. .they sound strong, growly and very defined... and the feel is awesome.

I have a stock set of Labella tapewounds on my Rob Allen 5 string. Great feel and sound.

Where can you source a five-string set? Are they custom ordered?

Yes, the Fender, LaBella, GHS, Rotosound nylon tapewounds are great for magnetic pickups. Steel under the nylon. I just put a set of Labella nylon tapewounds from Carvin on a 5-string active bass. I am loving them so far. They are not clanky, but have good mids and highs enough to slap. But, much more balanced fundamentals than roundwounds. Very smooth sounding, like somewhat bright flatwounds perhaps. Give a listen to Rezdog's clips referenced above. He has them on a Reverend. That's pretty much the way they sound.

+1 on the Labellas. I have a real bright/grindy Pbass that mates perfectly with these strings. I still get that bright, raw tone but with less harshness.

I've used rotosound tapes before, but they weren't for me. Their more akin to flatwounds.

I don`t think sound clips do justice to these strings. You got to hear them live to appreciate the sound and vibs from them.
maybe if you play a good CD on a really good player and speakers you mite hear and feel it. But not on a computer speaker set up.
