Nylon Tapes... string through body?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an MIA P-Bass which i've had strung with Fender Flats for about a year.

I'm too curious about tapes so i ordered a set of Fender Nylon Tapes.

Question... since they are bigger in gauge do you recommend stringing it through the body or top load?

How about the nut? I know that MIA stock strings have a .110 E string so the nut can handle that... but what about the G slot?

That's tough. To do it right, you should file the nut to the correct size, but man, what if you don't like them... Tough choice, sorry.

I would hook onto the bridge, btw.

Top load, definitely.

I have used the Fender tapes on my 96 Fender P, which has the body through bridge. They fit the nut and the silk did not extend over the fretboard. They did not work on my Carvin AC40 fretless, however, the silk extended over the fingerboard.
It probably will depend on the bass. It should work on your P, but I hope if you have the topload option, that will be the way to go.

Well to update:

I fit them through body and all is well.

I didn't imagine they would be this floppy and that low in tension though! Guess I got used to flats too much.

All might be well know but the severe angle bend on the nylon wraps can easily cause breakage of the nylon wrap...I know I have been thru that. My recommendation is top load and for extra security I use Graphite saddles. Nylon wraps do not like sharp edges or sharp angles
