Nylon tapewound questions

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!

i wonder about nylon tapewounds. I have read about the problem with grounding and static electricity when you use this kind of strings with electric basses and i wonder, does all brand nylon tapewounds have this issue? Which have you tried? How were they ?

Would these strings work "better" with AEBs? Which brand makes low-tension nylons?

Don't know where you read that, but I've used Tapewounds for years with no issues. I've used Rotosonds, LaBella and GHS and never had problems wih any of them. I prefer the Rotos or LaBellas to the GHS.

As far as low tension, Tapewounds are similar to rounds in tension.

It depends on your bass. If you've got a bass that buzzes as soon as you take your hands off the strings (or if you're not touching something metal on the bass), then having tapewound strings keeps your fingers from touching the actual metal of the string underneath, so you can't stop the buzz that way. If your bass is shielded well it shouldn't be a problem.

The lowest tension tapewounds that I know of are the Status-Graphite ones. I'd say they work well with ABGs and AEBs

I will recommend the Status tapewounds. They play great and were a little less tension than the rounds I had on my ABG. I have been using the ABG at church for several weeks lately and the sound is great.

I am thinking of getting a set for one of my hollowbody basses next.
