Post The Official Roundwound Club

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys! I just started this club for bassists who ALWAYS and ONLY use Roundwound strings. You must say why you use them and which ones you use (by "which ones you use" I mean you must say the brand and gauges of the strings) to enter the club. I use them because I love bright sounds. Flats are too far away from the tone I wish. I think they feel and sound better than flats, and are perfect for slap and pickstyle, as they have a much better tone for that than flats and because I love to hear the sound of the pick when I hit the string with it. It sounds better! I use Fender Super 7250's Bass Strings because they have the perfect gauges and sound I want. PERFECT!

Since picking up bass full time, I've always used round wounds. I play speed metal, so I like the tone bright and tight. I play through vintage Marshall Super Bass heads, and the round wounds really GROWL through them.

Over the years, I've used Dean Markley Super Rounds, GHS Boomers, and currently DR Fat Beams. I'm on my first set of Fat Beams, and I REALLY like the feel of them, so they will be my go-to strings for the forseeable future.

I've always played 4 stringers using .045 - .105 gauge strings.

Cheers!

I only use roudwounds. I dont like the sound or feel of flats. Never heard a bass with flats that turned me on either. Rotosound swing66 45-105 gauge as main string since the early mid 70's. Recently switched to DR neons green, (6months ago) same gauge.

All basses sound better with roudwounds. Lol.

I prefer a modern tone and also like the feel of rounds. I use Ernie Ball super slinky .45-.100
I also like D'addarios light rounds.

Funny how our opinions are different. I personally find those extreme high end overtones to be annoying. Although, I do enjoy my high mids.

Rounder

Roto 66's .45-.95 on a Precision. Play kinda punky alt with a hint of pop. I just love the growl I get out of them!

I use GHS boomers, ML3045's, they are med lights and I really like the brightness and ease of bending the strings without the worry of possible breakage from string pulls and slap. Great tones for my taste. Also they stay in tune.
.45 -.100

D'addario's (EXL 70's), and Rotosound (FM 66's). Like them both but leaning more towards Rotosounds. Use them on Fender P Bass'es.

DR. Neons .45-.105. I used to use the light guage(.40), but have adjusted to the standard .45. I started with Round wound, and tried a set of flat wounds, couldn't play them worth a damn, immediately went out and spent another $40 that night to get a set of roundwounds. I like the feel of the ridges that I've spent years building my callouses too.
