Ernie Ball string wipes do a nice job of bringing life back to strings as well. |

What follows is generally a series of posts where people list their favorite gear without actually addressing the concerns of the OP. |

| | | | My opinion is because flats have a percussive character to them that dead rounds can't duplicate...at least no dead rounds that I've played.

| | | | Most Flats do not sound "dead" as some people say they do , granted there may be some that sound dead but most flats simply have less treble zing rather than actually sounding dead. Ernie ball and Daddario flats for example are quite bright for flats, Daddario sounding almost as bright as a roundwound and whereas a roundwound will go dead after a relatively short time , flats will hold the same tone for a long time. |

I usually play d'addario XL nickels and they sound nothing alike, sure i quite liked the flats for their warm sound but what i dont get is why people said flats when they wanted the bright zing of new roundwounds?

The ones who DO mind are either: - Too stupid to understand that people post without reading entire threads
- A total pr1ck who tries to ruin everyones fun

If you want flat's tone, get flats! | An even better trick is to soak 'em in pure ethanol for a day or two, brings them back brand new. I've sets I've soaked 5-6 times, and they're still going strong. The only set I've had to replace was a set where the frets had worn down the string windings to the point where they broke.
