Where is the string selector tool when you need it?

I play mostly classic and heavy rock, a few old school metal, a bit of chick rock once in a while. Playing with 1 or 2 distorted guitar at once. Nickleback-Weezer-Godsmack-Eagles-You Get The Idea.

I do slap a little bit, actually learning to slap.

I already have flats on one bass (my Foundation), so this will be round wounds.

I like D'Addario and Rotosound. Had bad experience with DR (E string broke while slowing adding tension) and really a big fan of them.

So... What do you advise?

I never liked any DR strings I've ever tried. Roto's are greatness. The stainless rounds are fantastic, but lose their punch quickly. The nickel rounds are not quite as zingy, but keep the zing for a long time. I use those on my Ric 4003. Also like Slinky's. I use the heavy set, (with a .110 E) on my Fender P. Huge sounding, and bright. Even Fender strings are ok. It's really a matter of trying lots of different strings, (over a long period of time, unless you've got the scratch to buy 5-10 sets).

I just recently switched to Dunlop NPS strings, they have the brightness of steel but with the fullness of nickel. Plus they won't eat your frets or your fingers!

Im not a fan of D'Addario but I love the Rotosound 66 "Swing Bass" sets because I love very treble-y strings.

They work for alot of stuff, whether youre playing some Tool or jamming with a jazz band, they sound great

Rotosound. I used them for years, and they just have such a growl to them.

Thanks. I have used the Rotosound 77 on my flat wound bass, but I went back to D'Addario. Probably because they have a totally different feel. I would have re-used my 77 but unfortunately they were cut for an RBX and the G string was too short after that.

The luthier also advised me to use the Rotosound 66.

Right now I use D'Addario XL220 (medium) on another bass and I like them as well, but not as punchy.
