Yup, that sounds about right. Here in the USA, an average 6 string guitar set costs about $5, while your average 4 string bass set costs about $20-$25. There is a lot more material in making bass strings than guitar strings.

Yeah, £30-£40 is about right for a good set of strings around here. Even EB's are £20!

http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/Catal...categoryId=180

They are a little cheaper there.

Look on the bright side, we dont need to change strings as often as guitar players

my buddy changes his guitar strings every 2 weeks, and gives me a hard time for my 2-3 months per set of bass strings. then he looked at the price of bass strings and realized that he was STILL getting off a lot cheaper.

if you ever get too upset about the price of strings, just pick up a set of upright strings. you'll be MUCH happier then!

Really? What strings are you using? I'm getting about 2-4 weeks out of mine, depending on the strings.

The cost for bass strings is the key factor in why I use Elixirs. They last way longer than normal strings = much cheaper in the long run although the price for one set of strings is higher.

If I stuck to regular roundwounds, I would change strings one or two times a month. With elixirs, I change about twice a year...

+1 on that. I need to buy a new set for my DB, and if I get out of there for around $150, I'll be happy.

Well yeah...the guitar set has string guages of like .09 thru .50-ish. The bass set has string guages .40 thru .105 or whatever size you get.

Most people don't have to change bass strings every other week after heavy playing as well so be thankful!

I pay $40 for my strings and that makes me a sad panda because I'm always breaking them.
