Old-School Flats for EB-3

So I have a (most likely lawsuit) Japanese clone of a Gibson EB-3 made around 1970, and since I started playing it a few years ago I've been using denatured alcohol to refresh the strings as well as I can (strings that are older than I am) but they have developed some serious notches from the frets.
What would you suggest for flatwounds on an old shortscale gibson(style) bass? I like the deep groovin sound I get from these old strings, and they are smooth as butter (the E string is wound so well you can't even really make out the gap between the winds unless you look close), but I need to replace them soon as theyre wearing thin (literally!).
I hear labella deep talkin' is pretty good, but I'm not sure how old-school they sound. Any suggestions?
