If you look at D'Addario's website, the Chromes in the lightest guage are fairly close in tension to TIs. The E-string would only be .95 though.

They won't feel so floppy, though. The TIs have a silk wrap between the core and the windings that make them very flexible.

So do the TIs feel sloppy, and the Chrome's won't feel so sloppy?
I have a feeling I will like the sloppyness though, because normal-tension strings wear my fingers out for some odd reason. I can bench reps of 135 all day, my hands are vieny as hell and look like they should be really strong, but for some reason, my left hand always wears out quickly. I don't like rounds, though, even though they are easier to finger down.

I love TI's for their feel and flexability. I haven't found anything else that comes close in feel to them. I'm sure there are lower tension flats out there though I can't think of any right now.
As a side note, finger/hand dexterity or strength has nothing to do with benchpressing (chest, tricepts) nor does the vasculature of your hands. If you want finger/hand endurance you need to play more, or get one of those finger strengthener thingies

Labella! I have the 760FL on both of my basses and love them. The tension is just slightly higher than the TI strings if I recall correctly (I've only played a set of TI strings once).

Yea I should have said something about pull-ups/chin-ups they involve more finger strength. I think its more a problem with my technique than the strength. My point is I could armwrestle almost anyone (my age) as a kid and win, I'm naturally strong, but it's hard to play a nonstop thirty minute session, when it shouldn't be. I think those grip things can cause carpel tunnel (sp), so I refuse to get one!

Another vote for the LaBella 760FL set. LaBella also makes an even lighter set (the 760FX), but I've never tried them.

That may be, but I find they feel alot stiffer, and require that extra strenght to really dig in, where as the TI's are much looser feeling. But the labella's do have a nicer tone, and are much more thumpier! All IMHO of course.

Floppy, not sloppy, though one man's floppy may be another man's sloppy.

The 760FL's are my favorite flats, about the same tension as DA XL170 nickel rounds: to the light side of medium tension.
www.juststrings.com publish tensions for the manufacturers that give them out...

There are plenty of stretches to help with carpal tunnel syptoms.

+1... and they do have more thump. I'm sure it's due to the higher tension and slightly heavier string.

Good point. Bigger string, bigger sound. You pay the price in sound with a smaller gauge string.

TI flats are my fav.

Also, Lakland flats are low tension.
GHS are med. tension.
Chromes are med. tension.

These three are the lowest I've played.
