Peavey Cirrus Strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
I put a set of Peavey Cirrus strings on my L2500 a while back and I've been completely impressed with them. Great sustain, superb clarity, long lasting - just great strings overall.

However, they are nickel plated and I still prefer the bite of SS. These are, so far, my favorite nickel strings, but I'd like to find something as long lasting and as clear, with a little more upper-mid bite.

I've also got this bass strung E-C and had to purchase a 6-string set to do so. I'd prefer to buy an E-C set, or a 4-string set and a single C (assuming I keep it this way). I'm not opposed to trying other similar strings, but these Peaveys have me thinking I'd use them on this bass exclusively - especially if I can't find a stainless steel set of strings with the same great characteristics as these nickel strings. So far, the only strings that I have liked more for all the qualities I'm seeking are TI Superalloys, but they sure aren't cheap, and I haven't found singles or E-C sets.

Does anyone know if the Cirrus strings are available under a different name elsewhere?

This is not the answer to THAT question, but the answer to your dilemma is DR HiBeams. Get them however you want them:

I like DRs (Fat Beams are my favs on a Jazz bass), but I've had a lot of inconsistent experience with them. I've gotten more than a few bad sets. But I might give the Hi-Beams another shot - especially if I can build my own set.

Thanks.

I would have suggested FatBeams but he does not offer them in a 'build your own' set. But if you email Jason he might hook you up, his service is top notch. He said he'd open up any set of strings he sells (other than 'sealed in a bag' sets) to get whatever gauge I wanted. He's a member here, and you'll get a VIP discount if you sign up as a TB user.

When people send me peabeys for setup dr strings are the least impressive. The physical tension makes them tougher to use

They're fine on other basses.

A friend of mine can order the Peavey strings for me - I got mine from him - but I hate buying a full 6-string set just to throw away the B-string. However, since I have multiple G&L 5strings in multiple tunings (and I hope to get more G&Ls), I could buy 4 and 6 string Cirrus sets and use the E-C of one and the B + E-G of the other.

The only other Nickel set I've actually liked aside from the Peaveys is Ernie Ball Slinky's. Not sure what makes them work on the G&L, but they do. They are very different from the Cirrus strings, though. Different kind of good.

I have no evidence to back this up, but to me, the Thermal Fusing process, sounds identical to SITīs Fusion winding, used on the Rock Brights. Might be the same string?

Hmm. Maybe so. I haven't tried SITs yet. I'll put those on my list.
