Peavey Dyna Bass string recommendation

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, I just picked up an 87 Dyna Bass with SF pickups and have fallen in love. Thinking about selling the Am. Standard Jazz now.

Anyway, the strings on it must be over 10 years old, as the previous owner must have stored it. I love the loose tension, and light gauge these old strings have but they need to be changed.

What are you putting on your Dynas? What is a good low-tension string for this bass. My search so far has turned up Peavey Cirrus strings, but I guess they only come in 35" scale.

Thoughts?

My cousin plays a Dyna Bass and refuses to play anything but SITs on it. He says that they really compliment the sound of the bass.

El Oh Ell! I used to have a '97 USA Fender Jazz V - it was an excellent, wonderful bass in every way. Played great, sounded exactly like a jazz bass should.... Then I got a Peavey Axcelerator 6. The Fender never got played again, and eventually got sold. So I know where you are coming from...

I used to have an '87 Dyna - Bass and mine was very finicky with strings. Some basses you can put anything on and they'll sound and play awesome no matter what. Not my Dyna-Bass. My Dyna-Bass liked the Peavey branded stainless steel rounds with a 130 "B" string. I tried a few others. Not too many, because I always ended up coming back to the Peavey branded strings.

35" strings will fit fine on your bass - I would try the Cirrus brand strings and see how you like them.
