Hi, I just replaced the awfull sounding and floppy strings that came with my ESP Bass with a set of 4 strings Nickel Pedulla.
I love the feel and sound except the "E" string sound...Boomy is the only word I can come up with to describe it, not inline with the others at all. As soon as I hit a note on the E it sounds like thunder just hit my house.
I tried adjusting the pick up height, but it's no good since it affect other strings as well, same with EQ.
The other set didn't show this behavior. Is this always the case with thoses strings? If so, what other brand would give me the same feel but without this "boominess" of the E string? |

| Yes, and not just a little, it's like...thunder. Really annoying, they're coming off. |

I've had decent result taming the sound with a compressor in the chain, so I'm leaving them on for now, they're better than the floppies that were on. It's a shame because I really like those strings, the tension is just perfect for me. And I'm completely baffled by this, the string look absolutely perfect, no damage that I can see, it feels right under the finger too and I even took a micrometer to it and it does measure .105".
Since I appear to be the only one with the problem, maybe it was a fluke. You think I should order an extra Pedulla E string with my next string order?
[edit]scratch the single string thingy, pedulla doesn't seem to sell singles

I'm going out now to buy a new set of strings, I'll get whatever the local shop has in stock, that should tell me if the problem is with the bass or with the string. |

I put the stock string back, not that problem (but the string are so loose, no tension whatsoever, that they're downright unplayable...).
Put the Pedulla back on (I like the feel better than the dRs). Now where do I go from here? Practising with a compressor all the time is not practical for me as I have no hardware compressor, have to run through software and I have to change my setup around completely to do that every time I want to practice.
Practising with a booming E string is distracting, I actually flinch every time I have to hit a note on that string. I measured a 9-12 dB difference on the 7th fret from the E to the A string...
Is there something to do or am I sob with that bass?
