Picato Stainless Steel Halfround Bass 45-105 Strings Review

I did some searching on here prior to purchase and they don't seem that popular, so I thought I'd write a review of them if anyone might be interested... I'm by no means a pro string user, so I'll do my best. For your reference, I've used them on my 1989 Squier P-bass....

Purchased from Strings Direct at a cost £16.95 with free delivery.

Weight: listed as 45 - 105 standard, but they do feel heavier than this - more like a 50 - 110 weight if not slightly more. The strings are very taut with not as much movement as I would of expected.

Packaging: 1st and 3rd in one bag, 2nd and fourth in another.

String ends: the outer winding of the string around the inner core goes right to the very end of the string. No fiddly thinning out (unlike say Rotosound) which I like. It's an effort to trim the string with snips, because they're solid and substantial. No unlikely breaks etc. The ball end is also substantial, and there is some slight tapering on the E string for better flexibility/vibration.

String feel: A very good smooth feel and finish. Someone less experienced may have difficulty identifying these as half-rounds - they feel smooth and very flat. The E strings perhaps is the roughest in feel, but only slightly. No stickiness either.

String sound: Overall, these strings retain a nice brightness and clarity, particularly for finger style playing. Perhaps not so suited to slap etc due to weight. The G is very bright comparable to a round wound. The strings get ever so slightly duller as you move down through from G to E. The E is still well balanced though, if lacking a little clarity compared with a full round wound string.

Hopefully that is of help to someone? I'm definitely using them again, especially at £17 a pop - brilliant bargain!
