Piccolo strings/bass

I already searched the board for this, and didn't find a suitable answer.

what strings do i need to string my bass with to make it a piccolo bass?

if it's tuned one octave higher, would guitar strings do?

and, can i string a fender Precision bass with these higher strings, and get a suitable tone

thx in advance, and I hope i'm not too vague

there are commercial packages of piccolo strings available.

they will work on your fender.

Not sure if guitard strings are long enough. I use them on my piccolo but it's a 30" scale bass. It would be pretty cheap to try, though.

Very unlikely guitar strings will work. I use La Bella piccolo strings (Hard Rockin' Steel...kinda funny) with good results.

I have piccolo strings on my fretless sterling right now and it sounds sweet- i bought my set from juststrings.com I think- but zonguitars.com sells a set as well. guitar strings won't work is my best guess because the scale length won't work on a standard length bass.

you can hear it on my page: myspace.com/calmdownjohn

check out the song 'nintendo power' - it sounds very much like a fretless guitar.

wacky stuff

Guitar strings work quite well on short scale basses but as you have suggested too short for most basses. I also use the Labella hard rocking steel's....wish Labella would make a set in flats
