Picked up a set of Roto 77 flats today...

My boss gave me a Samash gift card for Christmas along with my
bonus so today I decided to get a free set flats to experiment with. I was pretty set on getting a set of Labellas to try but they only had short scale sets in stock. I was pretty bummed but I saw they had Rotosound flats for the same price so I figured why not? Well, when i first strung them up and played for a couple of minutes I really wasnt liking them, they felt different than the flats I was used to playing and sounded realllly bright close to sounding like rounds. I decided I would take them off after I got home from work. I just played for about an hour with these strings and now they feel great. Alot less clangy then when I first strung them and less trebly sounding. Im guessing they just had to settle a little bit I only worked for 8 hours and they sound and feel alot more to my liking. All in all not a bad deal can't wait till i really break em in.

The Chromes I have did the same thing. When I first put them on I thought they sounded too bright. Now that I've got a few hours of play on them, they sound very mellow. Good stuff.

Yeah, rs77's are really roundwound like when you first play em, but they mellow out really fast. Mine are 2 months old now and they have every quality i could desire from a string.

Trust me ... keep those 77's on your bass. They just get better and better as they break in.

I ordered a set of RS77 short scale flat online. Went to re-string my bass, and discovered that one of the strings in the pack was a long scale. Fired off an email to MF, they wrote back apologizing, and saying they would send me a whole new set, no need for me to send back my one wrong string. (That's good customer service, although considering how much I spend on that site, they should treat me that well ).
So my bass is strung for a week with 3 flatwounds, and 1 roundwound while I waiting for the new string. I mostly played a different bass all week, but maybe played around for a couple hours with this one.
New strings come, I throw the one on that I need - totally different sound that the same strings put on 1 week earlier. Crazy how quickly the brightness/twanginess fades. So that is one week, and maybe 2 hours of play.
