What style of music do you use your basses for that are equipped with flats? This poll is to get a good idea what styles these strings are mostly used for.

'50's rock-n-roll & dowap (did I spell that right?...lol), old school country, rock-a-billy, blues, pretty much anything pre 1965.

I'll use flats or tapes for classic rock, southern rock, blues, old-school funk or reggae.

I just got a set of chromes with the intention of using them for classic rock. First set of flats for me in a long time. love them so far.

I use them for almost everything. Flats make everything better... like butter on a biscuit.

Flats on all my basses. I got tired of the bass banjo sound. La Bella deeptalking flats. Oh did I tell you you can slap them quite nicely too.

Not necessarily.... You'd have to do a poll amongst players who play all of those styles regularly in order for the results to be statistically significant. Sorry... stats geek here!

I have flats on all my electric basses, and I use them for R&B, soul, old school funk, blues and reggae. For jazz and latin, I'll use my upright bass (with gut strings).

Seeing my P is my main bass, and I use it for everything... Everything. Flats just give the perfect bass tone, IMO.

Also a flats only guy. Blues, classic rock, and a little Talking Heads.

Just tried a set of medium Fender Flats (8050?) They started out with a nickel round type of zing, quickly mellowed into a sound that isn't much like nickel rounds at all(rightfully so, they are SS flats after all...). After a month and a half they seem to still have the same tone they did after settling in. Very full tone, like that of very heavy gauge strings.

IMO they fit well for rock, but still have the vibe to get a real old school sound.

Played a gig recently and for the first time someone commented on my bass tone. "Round, and full. Old School."

The main reason i tried flats was because I'm currently on a Jamerson Kick.

I said Rock and Soul.

I play all kinds of rock (inlcuding metal, punk, classic rock, whatever), jazz, funk, blues, bluegrass, whatever the mood strikes, and I do it ALL on flats. I prefer Fender 9050M's on four string, but unfortunately, Fender doesn't make a 5-string flat set that I can find, so I'm having to switch brands on my active Ibanez 5-string...going to try D'Addario Chromes and Rotosound 77's...
