Is it a good idea to put 55-110 string gauge for standard tunning?

thank you for your time.

I don't see a problem, as long as you're set properly. What are you using now?

^^^ That should have been the title of your thread.

It's not a good or bad idea. Steve Harris has used a 55-110 set in standard tuning for ages. If your bass has considerably lighter gauge strings on it now then you'll need to adjust the truss rod to compensate for the added tension.

I use a set with that gauge for standard tuning, it's all about the set-up.

I used to run these on my 08 MIA Jazz. It was set up for Medium DR Lo riders, and i could go between those and Power Slinkys, with no adjustments necessary. The larger gauge helped when tuning to drop D but i went between standard and D often with these. Great for standard, great for half step down, good for Drop D.

These are great sounding strings, but they just don't last long enough. YMMV.

+1

You may find the tension to be a bit high while tuned standard on a short-scale though. IMO.
