Great string prices at Jacks:

I for one, actually like GHS Brite Flats. They do feel pretty grabby right out of the box, but after a few gigs your fingers polish them right up. I've had my current set on my P bass since about January, and they are killer strings.
Alloy 52 is 52% nickle. They say that the B52's (Round wound alloy 52) are about as bright as stainless. (They seem to make lots of flats out of stainless too) Smashing the windings, or grinding them flat kills the brightness to a degree. Pressure wounds are not as bright as rounds wounds, and ground rounds are not as bright as pressure wounds, and flats are not as bright as ground rounds.
For fretless, I highly recommend Nylon tape wound.
