I don't play P-bass, but I have KS Compressors on my 35" fretless and GHS pressures on my 34" fretted. Love them both. They sound very similar, but it feels like the KS strings are a little smother. Maybe the outer wrap is slightly smaller guage.
Also, I prefer the tapered B, I wish I could get 34" KSs or a tapered B on the GHS.

I was going for a similar goal. Loved flats, but wanted more brightness and harmonics. Liked the sound of broken in nickels, but couldn't stand the feel and finger noise.

Not really the same thing.

Fodera strings, like DR, are compression wound meaning that they squeeze the windings on very tightly. They are just normal roundwounds.

With Pressure Wounds, the windings are flattened before being wound on. They have a much smoother feel than roundwounds.

GHS 'pressure wounds' came today... sound good- so far... will give em some time, break em in, see if they are what I'm looking for... seem to go well with the Fralin p/u's

So... been playing with GHS pressure-wounds for a month now (M7200-.044-.062-.084-.106). I have used Roto 66's, mostly, for the last 30 years... but wanted a bit more fullness- with punch. Jason BSO reccomended these... with a month under my belt, I can truly say these fit the bill. I play hard- so I got the heavier gauge... but finger fatigue and potential fret wear seem to be at a very minium! I am playing thru Fralin p/j (+5% wound)... that helps!!

now i'm curious--i always assumed the ghs pressurewound strings were flattened after the strings were wound and not before. can someone with first hand knowledge clear this up for me?

The GHS site states that they are flattened during the winding process, which also backs up what the Artist Rep told me during the factory tour I took back in February. Found this pic too, which I know is in my GHS catalog; should help as well.

The GHS and Smiths are both very 'roundwound' feeling still. The windings are certainly not as pronounced and feel better under your finger, but they are still definitely there. (for those that think these will feel closer to flats)

The Ken Smiths are made for them by GHS and as Jason points out are better used with string through bodies whereas the GHS strings are better for top loaders.

And Capvsev is correct. The Pressure Wounds are much closer to a round wound type with a smoother feel and mellower tonality than they are a flat wound even though they're called pressure wound flats.

They're a great all around string that are a fit for many basses and playing styles but neither a traditional flat or round wound.
