Pressurewound five string question.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everyone, happy holidays!

I will be taking delivery of a 35" scale, five string, string through body P bass within the next month, and am already contemplating string choices.

I'm looking for something a little smoother than my Warwick/rounds combo, but brighter than my fretless Ric/tapewounds setup. I've done some research, and it seems like pressurewound type strings could be what I'm looking for. Here's where my questions come into play:

Are there versions of these strings made to accommodate a 35" scale, 5 string bass? Will I be able to run the strings through the body?

I'd really love to be able to take advantage of the string through body option, but I know some strings are simply not compatible, as well as possible length issues. Any information/recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

I trust that the vast wealth of experience and knowledge available on this forum will come to the rescue!

Not sure about length but I wouldn't expect any mechanical problems. Check on GHS; I think Pressurewound is their trademark. It's been quite a while but I used these successfully through-body; not a B-string, though.

I'd drop the folk at GHS a line about the Pressurewound strings. They would probably know more about your situation.

This is the exact set that I have on my 5 String. It is listed as a "Custom" set, but it works very well either way, string-through body or just the bridge. Make sure you get the Long Scale ones.

So you're using the GHS as well? I've checked out some videos, and they seem like the perfect option; just a little bit brighter than ground wounds, but less slap and sizzle than rounds.

Thanks for the info, everyone!

If anyone has anymore info, feel free to jump in!

Yeah, I tried Flats for a while, but everybody kept asking why I changed my sound. So I guess Pressurewounds are my "Signature" sound.
