Problem with Elixir strings on new Ibanez ATK

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!
I am not so happy with my new bass, it has Elixir steel stings, they are bright but very hard too play fingerstyle(very high tension), slap sound is even worse, strings are hitting frets like metal sticks muffling the sound, and clicking. I tried to change action, trussrod tension - nothing. Should I buy new string, what brand? I like the way ATK sounds on Davidsinrocks videos, like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiSgbh21bQY how to achive that sound apart from technique?
Need help.

I'd suggest trying DR Hi-Beams. They have a round core wire and get a much warmer tone then Elixer. If you don't like stainless steel then try the Sunbeams which are just nickle plated Hi-Beams. Hope this helps.
