Problem with Fender 9050 strings

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all

I just installed some Fender 9050MLs on my Fender Pbass, but there seems to be a problem with the low e.

It's kind of hard to explain, it's like if the low e have a chorus effect in it lol. Each time I play a note, you can hear a chorus type of sound. (Especially on an open note)

It's the only string that sounds like this, the other 3 are ok.

Thx a lot

The same thing happened with a set I used. I guess it is caused by the outer windings not being tightly wrapped around the inner windings, so that resonances can occur. Didn't find a cure for it - and since I switched back to roundwounds, I didn't really look for it.

I think you're not stuck with it. I damaged the strings by putting them on and off the bass just too often. So, if you simply put a new set on, everything should be fine.

Sometimes you get the chorus effect from strings if they are too close to the pickups. If these new strings are different than what you had been using you might try lowering the pickups a little.

It is likely, IMHO, that the tension is different (less?) on the 9050MLs. This may cause the strings to be closer to the pickup. If your E string is doing this, try raising the action or lowering the pickup on that side. Just a thought.

I agree with this.

I'd like to hear an update, if one is available.

I would hate to think fender has produced defective ML flats!
