Problem with Rotosound Swingbass 66s...help?

Right, I don't know who else to ask so I'll ask here.

I decided a couple of weeks back to restring my 5er bass. Now, like a lot of bassists, I keep a spare set of strings in my gigbag.

I restrung the bass with the new strings and began to play around to break them in. They felt HORRIBLE, like someone had coated them in glue, they looked tarnished and the sound coming from them was pretty twangy and jangling too.

Now the strings were kept untouched until I used them, and the gigbag hasn't been put in any extreme environment such as a hot or cold room.

So WHY has this happened?! I mean, it was a new pack of strings too.

every pack of rotosounds i have ever used felt that way. to me it feels like i have rubber tipped fingers that just won't let go of the strings.

Thing is that the last pack i used was fine, no tarnish or horrible tone coming from them.

Someone spilt beer in your gigbag?

Rotosounds are usually a bit sticky at first anyway, but they shouldn't be tarnished.

It sounds like you got a bad batch of strings. Some fast fret should clean them up nicely. You'll be able to slide around with less discomfort, play faster, and they might sound better too.

Has your gig bag been in extreme humidity changes? I can see the strings becoming tarnished if left in a car/outside/other humid place.

Will do this.

Nope. The only two places my bass has been is my church practice room and my bedroom, both of which aren't too hot/cold/humid/etc.

Rotos have been known for having bad quality control. Probably just a bad set, although even when I have had a good set they still feel like they are tearing up my fingers.
