problem with stainless steel stings

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone else have a problem with stainless steel stings? I have been using ss string for the passed few years (DR, SIT, D’Addario) and found my fingers would bleed and my skin would dry out and peel. I really like the sound of ss strings but I figured I would try some nickels. I got used to the nickels and I no longer had the skin problems and I’m wondering if it was the coarseness of the strings or an allergic reaction to the stainless steel was to blame.

I've never heard of an allergy related to Stainless steel, so I would assume it's just due to the roughness of the strings. About the drying and peeling, I have no idea, that does sound like an allergic reaction.

A good idea might be to contact a dermatologist to see what might be the problem.

It's funny, lots of people have an allergy to nickel.

I have never heard of an allergic reaction to stainless steel.

My guess is it's the coarseness that is irritating your fingers. Use a good moisturizer when not around the bass.

I did use moisturizers but it didn’t help. It would be so bad I would cut the sticky part of the Band-Aid and put it on my fingers so I could play.
