Thumbs up ProSteels Baby!

I know some guys bashed these strings but I don't know why? These strings sound tight and bottomy with an aggressive growl. I slapped them on my P-Bass and my SX SPJ ash. I like them. They sound better than the nickles especially the E string.

i agree, i think they are a great sounding string right out of the box. i just wish they would last past one show.

I find them to be very long lasting strings, way longer than Rotos or DRs in my experience. I guess different body chemistries may produce different results.

I noticed that the ProSteels aren't as zingy as other stainless strings but deeper and tighter. They are unique.

I heard from a dear friend whom I trust that they SEEM to last long. IOW, they stay bright a long time but lose their responsiveness/liveliness. So you think they are lasting not as much as you think. Any other comments?

In my experience, they seem to last at least as long as any other steel string I've tried, and I do like the tone. I really like the price. On the whole, a great string value.

I have nothing but good things to say about ProSteels. Nice and aggressive sounding and they stay bright for a while. Much MUCH longer then expected and at around $15/$16 a pack, they may just be the best string on the market for the price, considering stainless.

They are Very tight sounding. Probably one of the tightest booties I've come across in my string ventures.

Agreed. I use the 5 string set with a .135 B on a 34" scale. It is indeed tight and THUNDEROUS. They last a long time, and when they are broken in they still sound great. Outstanding value!

Weird.
I personally hated the strings.
Thin, clanky and not my thing.

The bass/pickups have a lot to do with it, though, and I put them on a TRB6P with the stock pickups. VERY zingy in the first place.

Glad they're working for you. They sound nice on my alder body/maple neck P bass, too.

Yeah, I didn't like them either. I picked them up after generally good responses on this forum, but on my Bongo they had very little midrange. The nickels worked much better.

Man, this is proof of different strokes for different folks. To me, these are the worst strings, BY FAR, I have ever had the displeasure of using. They have a HUGE muddy indistinct bottom end, absolutely no midrange or punch, and a clacky, harsh, high end. FiElDy in a box.

I don't mind them for $16-$18 a set, as I replace them inside one week... they just don't last.. but then I've found nothing that sounds bright and lasts! DR, D'Addario, even Gold Optima's all fade inside a few hours of slap and funk .. Alcohol brings them back to life for about 5 minutes at best..

I would get seriously rich if I could invent a truly long lasting bright bass string!

I wouldn't agree with your friend's appraisal of them, though it could be just a difference in tastes. If you like brand new (less than 10 minute old strings) string sound then I could see that opinion. They do mellow out after about 2-3 days of play then for me at least they stay the same for about a month to month-and-a-half of play (excluding gigs I play about 2 hours per day). In my experience no other non coated string can do this, and I hate every coated string I try.

As with any opinion YMMV, that's why they make so many kinds of strings.

Best wishes.
