Punchier/More Bottom w/ DynaBass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm currently playing D'Addario Nickel XL's 45-100 on my Peavey DynaBass (Super Ferrite pickups). I've decided not to sell it but I'd like to try some new strings. I use this bass for funky and dance rock. My other "main" bass is a double precision with chrome flats so I'm looking for some variety. I want a good deal of growl but I need a lot of punch and bottom as well. I was thinking about checking out DR Stainless Steel lo-riders but I assume I'd have to set my bass up for those. I'm completely okay with that and am looking for more suggestions and reasoning behind them.

Before I finished reading your post I was already thinking DR's - maybe even FatBeams. I don't think you can go wrong, although you'll be getting some crispness in the highs as well.

If you like the feel of nickel, I'd also recommend Cleartones. I'm running them on my Lull and Lakland Jazz basses, and they're awesome. If I didn't know better, I'd swear they're SS - plenty of punch and bark across the frequency range.

Good luck with your decision. I really miss my old DynaBass - it was the first five-string bass I owned, and I loved the sound from those pickups.

When I had a Dyna-Bass with SF pickups I tried a lot of strings on it. The strings I liked the most were the Peavey branded Stainless Steel rounds.

Hiya,

I've played Ken Smith Stainless "Rock Masters" 45-105 on my Dyna for years. Mine is the Unity series koa neck-thru and has the P-J setup with the 3 band preamp from the TL series, not the SF setup so I can't say how your results will be.

Hope it helps,

Tom

I went with the DR Lo-Riders and I have to say, I am VERY impressed.
