Put some Chromes on my Mark Hoppus p bass

Sign in to disble this ad
and WOW!!! this is my first experience with flats and im in love!!
the mark hoppus p bass already has a nice aggressive tone on its own so i needed to downplay it, but i didnt wanna loose all of that brightness.

they are so smooth! i played a gig last night and usually after 3 hours of playing my fretting fingers will be a little sore from the strings, but man they play like butter!!

I hear ya...Chromes are quite an experience the first time. People who haven't tried flats but are tempted should throw on a set of Chromes.

Chromes are not like a traditional flatwound. They have a character all their own. Just enough brightness and bite to not be totally "flat-like", yet not zingy bright like rounds. PUNCH is the word that comes to mind.

I ordered my first chromes (first flats ever) yesterday and I'm going to put them on my hoppus, too.

so i played my first show with this bass and these strings the other night. it was coming out through the house sound so take this as you will but the general consensus:

people didnt like the tone.

i do play aggressive and maybe the brightness of the chromes and the hoppus bass/pickups might have to do with it, but for my coverband at least, the tone was not preffered. i personally enjoy playing it and like the sound, but i could see how it wouldnt fit in a coverband.

I was just taking Chromes off of my Squier P-bass. For fun I left 2 rounds and 2 flats on the bass. I could barely tell the difference in tone until I used a pick.

Yep. The Hoppus was made for a flat type string. (IMO) I hated mine with rounds, but a set of ground rounds, and boy oh boy!! That puppy just sings with those strings!

I put some Chromes on my latest acquisition and it sounds pretty good (my pups suck). Gonna take it to rehearsal tonite and see how it sounds thru the main system.
