Putting Bass VI strings on a Bronco?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am too poor to afford a real Bass VI imitation, and I already own a Bronco. The strings are too thick to do power chords at the moment, so I was thinking I could buy Bass VI strings and put the first four on the Bronco? Would this cause any complications, or could this be done like a normal string change?

If you are talking about just using the E-A-D-G strings they are a 45-55-75-95 short scale set. Not much different from a light gauge set.

Could I just buy a light gauge set?

They don't make it in the right gauge for just 4 strings, I'm buying the Bass VI set.

You can always purchase single strings that match the gauges... many different manufacturers make singles strings available...

You know most people don't use chords on bass. Usually when they do it's only on the higher strings. Are you just wanting a set of strings that's easier to fret or is it the tone you are getting that you want to change? If it's a fretting issue just get a lighter gauge set of strings. If it has to do with the tone when you are trying to play power chords try turning the bass knob down a bit on your amp and give it a little more mid's. By the way even the bass vi isn't usually played with chords on the lower strings.
