Pyramid Flats Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I had a set of Pyramid Flats on my Precision Bass for a while, and loved the sound.

However, the feel of the E string was very strange, and eventually I couldn't stand it anymore. It really felt like it was "rolling" under my fingers.

I can understand that this is a slinky, roundcore kind of string, but it actually felt like the outer winding had separated from the core and was "loose", hence the rolling sensation.

Any Pyramid users with input about this? Is this the way the Pyramid E string always feels?

I would like to give them another try if this was a fluke.

I have Pyramid flats on two 34" scale basses. They are one of my favorite strings. I've never had the problem you are describing. It sounds like the flat winding may be separating from the core. This could be a manufacturing defect or could have been caused by the string hanging up in the nut slot. The standard advice would be to check that the nut slot is big enough and cut properly and to lubricate the nut slots with graphite. The current string may be damaged and unfixable at this point.
